Atlantic City Electric through the proposed Smart Energy Network will replace all the existing analog meters in their service area with smart meters, or advanced metering infrastructure, that can securely provide them with real-time information about energy service. They will also upgrade the local energy grid with specialized networking equipment that can automatically respond and alert them to potential issues. With real-time data about the energy grid and their customers’ energy service, they can enhance reliability, maintain affordable service and improve the overall customer experience.  Following the meter installation, they are leaving a door hanger informing the customer that they have installed a smart meter but that the enhanced functionality has not been enabled.  The new meters will only be enabled when the New Jersey Board of Public  Utilities approves their Smart Energy Network Initiative and they have completed upgrading the local energy grid with specialized networking equipment.
